Technologies that make a difference

Buffaload Logistics has taken another significant step forward in its sustainability journey with the purchase of 10 new double-deck trailers fitted with Carrier Transicold Vector HE 19 Low CO₂ refrigeration units. We are the first to fit these fridges to double deck trailers.

The investment reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to reducing emissions across its temperature-controlled transport fleet while maintaining the high levels of reliability and performance expected by customers.

This investment aligns closely with Buffaload’s wider carbon reduction strategy, which focuses on cutting emissions across all aspects of its operation. The new trailers will typically be paired with the company’s Volvo FH Aero gas-powered tractor units, creating a lower-emission transport solution that tackles both vehicle and refrigeration-related environmental impacts.

The technology also supports sustainability through improved refrigerant management. Enhanced leak detection systems and an automatic refrigerant recovery process significantly reduce the risk of refrigerant escape. Should any refrigerant be lost, its environmental impact is substantially lower than traditional alternatives.

Carrier’s all-electric E-Drive architecture further contributes to efficiency while maintaining the performance required for demanding temperature-controlled logistics operations. The move also supports the industry’s transition towards lower-GWP refrigerants, with A2L-based technologies becoming increasingly important in meeting future environmental regulations and reducing the overall carbon footprint of cold chain transport.

For Buffaload, the arrival of these 10 trailers is more than a fleet investment. It is another practical demonstration of the company’s commitment to innovation, environmental responsibility and delivering a more sustainable cold chain for customers across the UK.

The new trailers utilise an ultra-low Global Warming Potential (GWP) refrigerant, helping to dramatically reduce the environmental impact associated with refrigerated transport. By combining a refrigerant with a GWP of just 239 and an integrated gas retention system, the Vector HE 19 Low CO₂ unit can reduce carbon emissions by up to 89% compared with current industry-standard refrigeration technology.
